Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol employed to encode the data exchanged between a hosting server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to preserve the information which customers submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an Internet store, etc. Any data they input in any box on the website will be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment data will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. Usually, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be installed, which implies the overall cost for your presence online shall be bigger. While this might not be an issue for a larger enterprise, it might matter for a non-profit organization or a small online store which does not generate big revenue if additional money should be spent. That's the main reason why we've taken advantage of an extension called Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to set up an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Shared Web Hosting
You'll be able to use this option with all of our shared web hosting plans and with any SSL certificate issued from any vendor. If you decide to work with an SSL from our company, everything will be set up automatically and you will not have to do anything after you buy and approve the certificate. The SSL order wizard will allow you to choose a shared IP address to be used and the SSL to be installed by our system, so using this feature requires a maximum of 2 additional clicks after you fill the necessary data for the certificate. The appropriate functioning of the SSL won't be influenced in any way and any information which website visitors submit on your website will be encrypted and secured in the same exact way. The sole difference from using a dedicated address is that http:// won't open your Internet site, but it is extremely unlikely that anyone will ever seek to access it this way rather than typing your domain name inside the world-wide web browser URL bar.
Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Servers
Any SSL certificate can be used with our specially configured shared IPs, thus if you have a semi-dedicated server account, you can use this option with just several clicks when you install a certificate you purchase through us or through any other vendor. For the SSLs that we offer you can also take advantage of an additional function and have our system set everything up for you. In this way as soon as you approve the SSL, the shared IP shall be set for the particular domain name or subdomain and the certificate will be installed with no action required on your end, and so any information that website visitors submit on your website will be protected. The SSL shall work in the same exact way no matter if it's set on a shared or a dedicated IP and the one thing which is different between the two setups is that inputting the shared IP address as a URL within a web browser won't open your site.
