AAAA Records
Discover exactly what an AAAA record is really, when it’s employed and whether you should put in place one for your domain name.
An AAAA record is an Internet protocol address within the freshly introduced IPv6 format and it is comprised of 8 different sets of hexadecimal numbers, in contrast to the IPv4 IPs, that include four sets of numbers in between 1 and 255. A good example of an IPv6 address would be 3014:0d43:23a3:2354:1320:8f3b:2635:3254 and with this format the amount of IPs which can be created is many times larger than the number of the IPv4 addresses. Each domain name has its website hosting server IP as a record and in essence, this unique record informs the domain address where the site for it is. Depending on the system that the provider uses, the record will be called A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6). Changing this record will allow you to host your Internet site with one provider and your email messages with another, so if you choose to use such a redirection to forward a domain name to a server that uses an IPv6 address, you'll need to set up an AAAA record for it.

AAAA Records in Shared Web Hosting
The cutting-edge Hepsia hosting Control Panel, included with our shared web hosting, will enable you to set up a new AAAA record with ease. When you're in the account and you navigate to the DNS Records section, you will find all records you have for any hosted domain name or a subdomain under it. All it takes to set up the AAAA record is to click on the New Record button, to pick the domain/subdomain in question, choose AAAA after which just input or copy and paste the IPv6 address. We have a step-by-step guide if you've never created records for your domains, but it's not likely that you will need it as Hepsia is much easier to employ than other Control Panels available. Within an hour your new record is going to be active and your domain address will start resolving to the servers of the other service provider. There is also an option to modify the TTL value, which shows how long this record is going to be functioning if you change it, from the standard 3600 seconds to any value that the other provider may require.
- AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Setting up a new AAAA record for a domain name or a subdomain hosted in a semi-dedicated server from our company involves only a couple of very simple steps, which you will be able to find inside the Help section of your Hepsia website hosting Control Panel as well. You'll have to pick the hostname for which the new record is going to be created from a drop-down menu in which you will find all of your domain addresses and subdomains. Setting up the new AAAA record is as simple as choosing the one that you need and inputting the IPv6 address for it. This is accomplished with no more than several clicks, so you can easily point any hostname to a different service provider by using an AAAA record and use it with whatever service they provide. It's going to take just a few seconds for the new record to be functioning and only around an hour for it to propagate worldwide, so you will be done in no time. The other service provider may also ask you to set some TTL value for the AAAA record, which is different from the standard one - 3600 seconds. This feature reveals how long it will take for any new value you set for your record to take effect while the old value is still active. - AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
